The Wood County Sheriff’s Department K9 division continues to play a vital role in public safety, law enforcement operations, and community support through a diverse team of highly trained working dogs.

The program includes three dual-purpose patrol K-9s (Timo, Bingo and Rosco) trained in explosive detection, narcotics detection, tracking, and criminal apprehension. These dogs assist deputies during traffic stops, search warrants, and missing-person incidents, while also providing an additional layer of officer safety during high-risk encounters. Their ability to quickly locate suspects or narcotics often reduces search times and increases operational efficiency.

The Wood County K-9 Unit also emphasizes community wellness through two therapy dogs (Lola and Ripp). One therapy dog is assigned to the Wood County Jail/Courthouse, where it assists correctional staff by helping reduce stress levels among inmates and employees, supporting rehabilitation efforts, and improving overall morale. The second therapy dog serves students and staff at Auburndale School District providing emotional support and fostering positive relationships between youth and law enforcement.

The Wood County K-9 Unit relies on ongoing training, handler dedication, and community support to maintain year-round readiness. Demonstrations and educational outreach events are periodically offered to the public to showcase the dogs’ capabilities and strengthen community relationships.
